Illegal aliens, tourists, and foreign visa workers delivered nearly 400,000 children in the United States over the last 12 months, prior analysis concludes, securing birthright American citizenship.

The analysis, published in 2018 by the Center for Immigration Studies, states that close to 400,000 “anchor babies,” the term used to describe the U.S.-born children of illegal aliens, are delivered across all 50 states each year.

Anchor babies are rewarded with birthright American citizenship despite their parents having no legitimate ties to the U.S., many having only recently arrived. Years later, when the child is considered an adult, they can sponsor their parents and foreign relatives for green cards — anchoring their family in the U.S. for generations.

Specifically, about 300,000 anchor babies are delivered to illegal alien parents every year. In addition, about 72,000 anchor babies are delivered to foreign tourists, foreign visa workers, and foreign students annually.

That total, at about 372,000 anchor babies born each year, outpaces the total number of births in 49 states, according to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics....

CAIRCO Notes

Correction: the original article title reads "Nearly 400K Anchor Babies Born in 2021, Outpacing U.S. Births in 49 States"

That's not true. Here's the explanation:

Here is a CIS study that reports 72,000 anchor babies per year: New Estimate: 72,000 Births Annually to Tourists, Foreign Students and Other Visitors Center for Immigration Studies, December 11, 2019:

Two new analyses by the Center for Immigration Studies estimate that there are 39,000 births a year to foreign students, guest workers and others on long-term temporary visa, plus an additional 33,000 births annually to tourists – 72,000 in total. Those born to these "non-immigrants," as the government refers to them, are awarded U.S. citizenship because they were born in United States and not because a parent was a U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident (green card holders). These births are in addition to the nearly 300,000 births each year to illegal immigrants.

Here is a CDC article: Births: Provisional Data for 2020

The provisional number of births for the United States in 2020 was 3,605,201, down 4% from 2019.

It's fairly clear how Breitbart came up with the 400k number of anchor baby births.

However, the CDC article they reference shows US births in the US as approximately 3.6 million.

Presumably this includes native born plus anchor baby births. So 3.6 million - 400,000 = 3.2 million native births, which is much greater than anchor baby births.

The last paragraph of the article states that there are at lease 4.5 million anchor babies in the US under 18.

So the title incorrectly compares all anchor baby births over the last 18 years with American babies born in one year.
