Migration Expands Beyond Northern Triangle

One of the 21st century’s biggest stories is slowly fading from the headlines.

Effective with President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the U.S. opened its doors to anyone who reaches the Southwest border. The thousands of illegal aliens that teemed over the border since January 20 negate the need for a formal announcement – the proof is on the nightly news as viewers watch hundreds who have illegally entered surrender to Customs and Border Patrol.

In April, near San Miguel, Ariz., 130 migrants turned themselves in to CBP. The alien inflow is such a common, daily occurrence that most media no longer find the elimination of a border by the Biden administration newsworthy when it will be, in fact, nation-altering.

If there were any doubt that the White House is onboard with unchecked immigration, Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to El Paso proved the point. Compared to the Rio Grande Valley where through May immigration officials apprehended about 272,000 illegal immigrants, a 300 percent increase over fiscal year 2020, little is happening in El Paso. Accompanied by immigration advocates Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), Harris defiantly insisted that her mission is to explore migration’s “root causes,” and that her administration is making “extreme progress.”

Harris’ deceit is shameful. Humane Borders, which tracks Arizona’s dead migrants using the Pima County Medical Examiner’s Office, verified 43 sets of human remains last month in the state’s border region.

Nothing, however, will deter Biden from his commitment to keep the borders open even though failure to enforce immigration laws allows meth, cocaine, heroin and fentanyl dealers, as well as human and sex traffickers, easy access to the U.S. interior. Fentanyl addiction drove the nation’s 30 percent overdose death increases from 2019 up to 91,000 in 2020. Sex traffickers have posed as minor children’s parents to more easily slip into the U.S. Michael Gramley, who worked as a border agent at the Yuma, Ariz., sector said that during his career from 1994 until his 2019 retirement, he saw many of those children forced to work in the U.S. sex industry, mostly in child pornography or as prostitutes, some as young as 14.

The Biden administration’s willful neglect at the Southwest border puts America at a high risk from her sworn enemies and endangers the lives of naïve migrants who have been encouraged to make the treacherous journey north.

Now, a new and grave concern has arisen. Reporting from the Costa Rica-Nicaragua border, Center for Immigration Studies Senior National Security Fellow Todd Bensman met who he described as U.S.-bound “extra-continental migrants” from Senegal, Eritrea, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leon, Nigeria and Ethiopia. As Bensman explained, under Biden a United Nations of mass illegal immigration is well underway. From Bensman’s report: “The latest CBP encounter statistics released in June show the agency’s encounters of non-Mexican, non-Central American immigrants skyrocketed from 1,308 in May 2020 to more than 40,000 in May 2021. That’s more than 30 times as many, albeit Trump had fully instituted deterring push-back policies in May 2020.”

Before his election, candidate Biden said that “in a heartbeat” the U.S. could take in 2 million more immigrants annually. During his December 2020 news conference, Biden doubled down on his promise when he pledged that family reunification could help him reach his 2 million goal. Between 2009 and 2019, during the Obama and Trump administrations, about 3 million Central Americans resettled in the U.S. Those most likely would qualify for family reunification. In many cases, reunification means bringing together illegal aliens from the Northern Triangle countries and Mexico with illegal aliens already residing in the U.S.

With his expansive immigration agenda and his commitment to family reunification, Biden is well on his way to making his 2 million new immigrants campaign vow a reality. Assuming Biden’s reunification dream comes true and his open borders policy continues, the U.S. population will eventually surge by several million – the chain migration effect – the jobs market will be diluted with cheap labor, and American wages will continue to stagnate. The Pew Research Center found that real wages have barely budged in four decades; adding more blue-collar workers to the economy guarantees that American earners will struggle indefinitely.

Americans are unaware of immigration’s big picture, the nation’s future. The administration is tight-lipped, and the media, mum. The immediate and long-range consequences for America are huge, but the White House, immigration advocates and lawyers refuse to acknowledge them.
