The Important Electoral College
21 November 2024
The Electoral College was created by our founding fathers for two reasons:
- To create a buffer between the population and the selection of a President. The founding fathers were concerned that direct election (by popular vote) of the President would allow a tyrant to manipulate public opinion and gain power.
- To provide a structure to balance power between larger and smaller states. If the President were elected by popular vote today, the populous coastal blue states would override the wishes of smaller states.
It's important understand why the Electoral College is a crucial component of our Republic. Learn more: at The Importance of the Electoral College.
