Trump may be savior of American civil liberties
"Trump’s recent strong-man rhetoric mimicking that of fascist dictators from the 1930s should send a chill up the spine of all Americans.” (Letter, 12/09)
The FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago already chilled American spines. As did two years of showy FBI roundups of January 6 rioters/protestors. Those displays and others inspired Dinesh D'Souza’s "Police State," a one-hour, 50-minute documentary. Worth your time.
In a letter published in the HDR in 2022, I described the intel community's roll in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story - three weeks before the 2020 election ("FBI raid is more meddling in election," August 26, 2022). Quoting:
"On October 20, 2020, 50+ retired intel leaders signed a letter stating that reports of emails found on Hunter Biden's laptop 'has all the classic earmarks of a Russian disinformation operation.' News media trumpeted the claim. Biden wielded it like a cudgel in the final debate."
With razor-thin margins in three key swing states, did the 51 former intel leaders tip the election? Was that their goal? Bear in mind that was just one operation.
Still another example of the Democrat’s principled approach to governing: Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi chose all members of the Select Committee to investigate January 6. She made one nod to bipartisanship. She appointed two Republicans: the Trump-despising pair Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.
Can you guess the principle?
What’s in store from the ruling party in 2024? Washington Times columnist Deroy Murdoch has a theory:
"The same left-wing crowd that wasted three years screaming ‘'Russia! Russia! Russia!' has a new chant: 'Dictator! Dictator! Dictator!'"
Irony: If American civil liberties survive the next several years, their savior will be the Beltway elites' nightmare: Donald Trump.
