Support Companies that Use E-Verify

One positive thing you can do to discourage illegal immigration is to try to use businesses and employers that use E-Verify to screen their employees to be sure they may lawfully work in the United States. E-Verify (formerly Basic Pilot Program) is an internet-based system operated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA).  E-Verify provides an automated link to federal databases to help employers determine employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers. How do you figure out which companies use e-verify?

  • You can go to the Federal Government E-Verify employer search tool. The biggest problem here is knowing the legal name of the company and their E-Verify address. But is simple and worth a try.
  • You might call the company and ask for their company name and legal address, and while you are at it, ask if they use E-Verify. If they don't, ask how they make sure their workers are legal. Let them know it is important to you.
  • A list that some businesses can use to do business with other legal businesses is the federal contractor E-Verify list. This list is not easy to use as it does not list by state or by alphabetical order.  Colorado's State contractors are required to use E-Verify. See if the contractors on your bid list do business with the state.
