Explaining Trump Derangement Syndrome - TDS
I've had discussions with well-educated and fairly intelligent people who eagerly lap up the contrived ad hominem attacks dispatched against President Trump. They have argued that Trump is a mentally unbalanced, would-be dictator who has a vendetta complex, and will use the power of his presidency to perpetuate a cult based on his narcissistic personality disorder.
So did he do that when he actually was president? Well... no. His accomplishments speak for themselves.
But that invective reminds me of someone who is held in high esteem by leftist Democrats. Here's a statement made by Obama at a recent Harris/Walz rally in Pennsylvania:
I don't think we've ever heard (of) an election with candidates who understand freedom so differently. For Donald Trump and his cronies, freedom means just getting away with stuff. [Democrats] believe that true freedom gives each of us the right to make decisions about our own life, and it requires us to recognize other people have the freedom to make different choices than the choices we might make.
Yet the Democrat party is the party of getting away with stuff, including lawfare persecution of their opponents. The Biden Regime, Letitia James, and New York judge Jack Smith, have been persecuting Trump for the last four years. Yet they accuse their oppponents of doing what they've been doing. And then there's DACA, and the open border - lots of stuff.
And "the right to make decisions about our own life" is a blatant dog whistle to abortion activists. Democrats are running on abortion this cycle because they can't run on the economy, the border, and international relations - all of which they trashed.
Most myopic leftist Democrats see this election as a personality contest instead of a crucial decision point on America's future direction as a socialist nation.
In the HotAir article, Presidential Race Is Not Actually About Issues, 11 October 2024, David Strom observes:
... Harris isn't just avoiding talking about policy because she is too radical for the electorate; rather, her campaign is about nothing but social class.
She is running to be the president of the gentry class...
Democrats have always run on class warfare to some extent, but until recently, they portrayed themselves as the champions of the working class. Not this time...
Harris doesn't talk about the issues because the issues don't matter much to college grads... They are, generally speaking, more insulated from social discord, economic chaos, crime, and the issues associated with border chaos...
Barack Obama set the tone for this reversal of the role of the parties regarding social class... he was classy.
The gentry class sees Donald Trump as crass, crude, and inarticulate. He repels them at a fundamental level because he is not one of them. I asked a liberal once about what Trump did as president that was so bad--his presidential actions and policies, and not what he said that offended them--and he couldn't think of a single issue...
It was about how Trump spoke, not what he did...
When they say that Trump is not fit for office, they mean he is too crude for their taste. ..
By the way, in one of those discussions with a demented Democrat, I said: "you know, Obama and Harris are both Marxists. You know that, right?" I'm still waiting for a response.
So what in the world is Trump doing if he's not trying to become dictator for (a limited) four more years? In the Thoughts from the ammo line, Ammo Girl points out that:
What Trump, a man my age, is doing is giving his absolute all - and almost his life - to save this country. He is risking his life every minute of every day. He doesn't have to. He doesn't need the money. He doesn't need the fame. He does not seem to me to crave power. He has a beautiful, loving wife, brilliant and attractive, non-addict children... and grandchildren who adore him, with none he won’t acknowledge.
Here is what I say to the people who say moronic things like... "He'll never leave office!" - TREASON.
WE DON'T NEED TO SPECULATE. He WAS President for four years. Did he do ANY of the things you think he "might" do? Cameron Diaz endorsed Hillary in 2016 because Trump was not only going to ban abortion, but BIRTH CONTROL! Did he? Of course not. You would think that most of the loudest lady loons would have "aged out" of concern about getting pregnant anyway, but they just yap on and on. Oh Em Gee, you guys, Trump is never going to leave office! Well, he was IN office and he LEFT. The stupidity is strong with these women.
I don’t even agree that Trump is a narcissist, at least not any more than the rest of pathetic humanity. He just wants - how much clearer could it be? - to Make America Great Again.
