Trump's words on illegal immigration ring true
by Fred Elbel, CAIRCO.org
Donald Trump is a capitalist, celebrity, and entrepreneur who has gained the attention of the right, the left, and the leftist mainstream media. Unfortunately, this attention has culminated in an overt attempt to discredit his position that mass immigration is doing incredible damage to our country. Racist accusations have been levied - invectives of last resort bandied when facts fail to substantiate an argument.
Trump's statements have infuriated the left and resonated with Americans, who recognize an orchestrated unarmed immigration invasion when they see it. How accurate are Trump's observations?
Illegal alien crime
Trump has observed that:
In his 2011 bestselling book, Time to Get Tough, Trump stated:
Indeed, Trump noted that the government’s own figures estimated the incarceration costs of these illegal criminals to be $1.1 billion.
Breitbart reports that the 2011 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report documents crimes committed by foreign alien nationals inside the United States, noting that:
By definition, not one one of these crimes would have occurred absent the immigrant [alien] who committed it – in other words, without admitting these individuals, there would have been at least 70,000 fewer sexual assaults, 25,000 fewer slayings, 125,000 fewer robberies, and so forth.
The U.S. Sentencing Commission publishes conviction data which reveal that 38 percent of federal convictions in FY 2013 were of illegal aliens, and nearly 43 percent were legal immigrants or illegal aliens. Specifically, FY 2013 convictions represented:
- 18 percent of drug trafficking convictions
- 25 percent of kidnapping/hostage taking convictions
- 56 percent of drug possession convictions
- 15 percent of money laundering convictions
- 20 percent of national security convictions
- 7 percent of murder convictions
Unfortunately, rape and most murder convictions are state crime and are not included in federal conviction data.
Based on the above data, US Government data reveal that illegal aliens clearly commit a disproportional number of crimes resulting in criminal convictions. How does that relate to the proportion of illegal aliens in the general US population? According to the Census Bureau, there are currently 321,300,000 people living in the United States. If we use the stale, outdated, and deliberately low official government figure of 11 million illegal aliens living in the United States, then 3.4 percent of people living in America are illegal aliens. Thus, illegal aliens would be convicted at a rate varying from 2 to 16.5 times the norm for convictions of Americans.
However, a more realistic estimate is that between 20 million and 40 million illegal aliens reside in the United States. If we assume 38 million, that would amount to 11.8 percent of people residing in America. Comparing that percentage to conviction rates reveals that illegal aliens are convicted at a rate of .6 to 4.75 the rate of Americans, depending on the crime.
As noted above, these data do not include most rapes and murders. Breitbart reported that in Texas alone over the last three years, more than 2,000 illegal aliens were deported after committing sex crimes, and nearly a thousand illegal aliens have been convicted of sex crimes against children. Breitbart further reported that:
- Illegal Traffickers Are Responsible for More Than 90% of the Heroin In America
- Of 78,022 primary offense cases in fiscal year 2013, 38.6 percent were illegal alien offenders. The majority of their cases (76 percent) were immigration related. Of total primary offenses, 17.6 percent of drug trafficking offenses and 3.8 percent of sex abuse were illegal aliens. Of 22,878 drug crime cases, 17.2 percent were illegal aliens.
- Nearly Half of Federal Crimes Occur In Just 5 of 94 Districts Along the Mexican Border.
Trump's observations regarding illegal immigration are irrefutable.
Sadly, Americans have died at the hands of illegal aliens who should have been deported according to any semblance of sane immigration enforcement. Kate Steinle, murdered at point blank range in San Francisco, and the Savvas Savopoulos family, tortured and murdered in DC are but two examples of vicious crimes committed by aliens who should have been deported.
It should be noted that the Obama administration is complicit in facilitating these crimes against Americans: DHS released 30,000 criminal aliens to American streets in 2014 and 36,000 the year before that. Breitbart reported that: those convictions included 193 homicide convictions, 426 sexual assault convictions, 303 kidnapping convictions, and 1,075 aggravated assault convictions.
Trade agreements harm Americans
Donald Trump is exceptionally concerned with the impact of globalism and global trade agreements on Americans. Analyst Nevin Gussack has noted that “Trump’s economics and aspects of his national security strategy challenge the Washington Consensus of globalism, free trade, and other internationalist policies.”
Donald Trump has stated that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) "is a disaster". “They don’t talk about currency manipulation,” he said. “That’s the tool all these countries are using to beat us.”
Trump remarked after NBC cut ties with him that: “If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract-violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court.”
Indeed, Trump's criticism of trade globalism is a defining aspect of his candidacy.
Complicity of Mainstream Media
Although Trump's statements are easily substantiated, both Univision and NBC have dropped Trump because of his outspoken comments. The leftist mainstream media leans notably in the Democratic direction and is clearly flustered with a candidate like Donald Trump who can neither be bought nor cowed. Breitbart has reported that Mexicans - that is, immigrants from Mexico - vote 3 to 1 Democratic.
Breitbart has observed that:
This is important because (as [Heather] Mac Donald has explained in previous writings) data from the pro-immigration Migration Policy Institute has shown that “between the foreign-born generation and their American children, the incarceration rate of Mexican-Americans jumps more than eightfold, resulting in an incarceration rate that is 3.45 times higher than that of whites”
Breitbart further observed that:
This number is chaff, a distraction. Mark Murray of NBC News has been especially dishonest about this.
Trump isn’t talking about legal immigrants. No one is. Everyone is in favor of legal immigration, and those statistics have a lot to do with it.
Trump needs to call the media out on this cheap apples and oranges tactic.
The reason the mainstream media is so hostile to Donald Trump is effectively exposed in the Canada Free Press article Why They Can’t Stop Trump, which reports that:
Her academic paper, published by the Brookings Institution, was clearly designed to warn liberals about how a “broad backlash” to immigration could damage the Democratic Party. She said a backlash could not only “shift the balance of power between Democrats and Republicans” but benefit “rightward leaning candidates throughout the country” who want to do something about it...
Hence, the key to Democratic Party success lies in manipulating the minority groups and immigrants into voting for Democrats in overwhelming numbers, as they currently do, while also conning a significant number of whites into voting Democrat. This is a con because the Democratic Party has no interest in protecting the interests of white people as a political or special interest group...
“Immigration and other factors appear increasingly to be pitting the declining white majority against the growing non-white minority,” she wrote. That majority may have found its voice in Trump, a man unafraid of the liberal media and the GOP establishment, which wants to continue the losing strategy of pandering to the minorities who overwhelmingly vote Democrat...
The media have no problem with blacks and Hispanics voting for Democrats in large numbers and affirming and protecting their own racial identities. But when whites do it, it suddenly becomes racism.
The media's complicity to de-emphasize illegal immigration is nothing new. Two years ago, the Associated Press dropped the term illegal alien when referencing illegal aliens, thus further obfuscating information about crimes committed by illegal aliens. Indeed, immigration status is routinely suppressed by the mainstream media in crime articles.
Such complicity goes hand-in-hand with the Obama Administration's actions to release criminal aliens and to essentially eliminate immigration enforcement in the United States.
Donald Trump's outspoken observations about illegal immigration and globalism may well represent a turning point in the focus of the 2016 election.

Trump added, “Making taxpayers pay for 351,000 criminals who should never have been here in the first place is ridiculous.”
Trump noted that even the government’s own figures estimated the incarceration costs of these illegal criminals is $1.1 billion. Perhaps even more staggering than the economic costs are the human costs, wrote Trump. Trump’s America, American Enterprise Institute, February 13, 2016:
If you are dismayed by Trumpism, don’t kid yourself that it will fade away if Donald Trump fails to win the Republican nomination. Trumpism is an expression of the legitimate anger that many Americans feel about the course that the country has taken, and its appearance was predictable. It is the endgame of a process that has been going on for a half-century: America’s divestment of its historic national identity...
For the eminent political scientist Samuel Huntington, writing in his last book, “Who Are We?” (2004), two components of that national identity stand out. One is our Anglo-Protestant heritage, which has inevitably faded in an America that is now home to many cultural and religious traditions. The other is the very idea of America, something unique to us. As the historian Richard Hofstadter once said, “It has been our fate as a nation not to have ideologies but to be one.”
What does this ideology—Huntington called it the “American creed”—consist of? Its three core values may be summarized as egalitarianism, liberty and individualism. From these flow other familiar aspects of the national creed that observers have long identified: equality before the law, equality of opportunity, freedom of speech and association, self-reliance, limited government, free-market economics, decentralized and devolved political authority...
Trump Adviser Explains The Donald's Immigration Plan: 'The Definition Of Compassion', Daily Caller, February 23, 2016:
Stephen Miller, a senior policy adviser for the Trump campaign and former communications director for Sen. Jeff Sessions [said]...
"There's an overarching principle that covers all immigration policy - three principles to be exact," Miller told TheDC in a phone interview.
"The first is that a nation without borders is not a nation. You've heard [Trump] say many times in many interviews either we're a country or we're not. It's that simple. We're either a country or we're not. Similarly, the second principle is a nation without walls is not a nation, which is an extension of the first principle, but in other words. If you have laws, you enforce them," he said.
"The last principle of the three is that a nation that does not serve its citizens is not a nation, which is to say that the social contract of the country is that the interest group that is served is not special interests, or lobbyists, or transnational corporations, or citizens of other countries. It is the citizens of this country, the United States," he added.
Donald Trump: I Remain Totally Committed to Eliminating H-1B Abuse, Breitbart, March 5, 2015:
On Friday morning (March 4, 2016), Trump released the following statement to clarify his position on H-1B visas:
Megyn Kelly asked about highly-skilled immigration. The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices such as those that occurred at Disney in Florida when Americans were forced to train their foreign replacements. I will end forever the use of the H-1B as a cheap labor program, and institute an absolute requirement to hire American workers first for every visa and immigration program. No exceptions.
