Radical Democrat socialists sabotage legitimate environmental concerns
President Trump's 2019 State of the Union speech marked the turning point for the Democrat party. Their socialist agenda is no longer hidden behind the veil of political correctness - it's suddenly mainstream.
From the article, White House Ridicules Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’ Green Deal, by Charlie Spiering, Breitbart, February 8, 2019:
White House director of strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp on Friday dismissed the New Green Deal offered by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a socialist fantasy.
“I think when you look at this proposal it’s like the idea of rainbows and unicorns, okay? We have to be realistic here,” Schlapp said in an interview with Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow on Sirius XM Patriot Channel 125....

Rainbows and Unicorns
From the article: ‘Green New Deal’ Is a Republican Parody of the Democratic Platform, by Joel Pollak, breitbart, February 7, 2019:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) released her “Green New Deal” on Thursday through National Public Radio (NPR).
As predicted, it is pure socialism.
The legislation, co-authored by Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), is a non-binding resolution that reads, to borrow a phrase from the late Jeanne Kirkpatrick, like a letter to Santa Claus — or, in this case, a wish list to Gaia or Mother Nature...
The Green New Deal, in short, is a document worthy of a 19th-century communist manifesto — or a 21st-century undergraduate student council resolution. It presents claims unsupported by scientific evidence; makes demands for every benefit imaginable; and has no idea how to build or pay for any of it.
It reads like a Republican parody of the Democratic platform.
The best part: they are serious.
And that's just the first of a forthcoming avalanche of conservative rebuttals. The backlash won't focus solely on the preposterous proposal of which Bernie Sanders must be proud. It won't focus just on the enormous cost and overwhelming restructuring of the economy - and of society.
The backlash will undoubtedly encompass all aspects of environmentalism. And that's the rub, as there are many legitimate environmental concerns that deserve our attention.
The Democrat party has boxed itself into a corner. They've come out of the closet. They are now openly socialist. And they have done more to damage the credibility of the environmental movement in one week than could ever have been anticipated.
No matter how hard they try to walk this back, Democrats will never again be viewed as serious defenders of America's environment. Not by mainstream Americans. And not in time for the 2020 election.

Green New Deal Is a Revamped Communist Manifesto, by James Delingpole, Breitbart, February 9, 2019:
... environmentalism is just a fashionable mask for the usual leftist obsessions with state control and wealth redistribution.
That’s why I called the book Watermelons: green on the outside, red on the inside.
Not everyone who believes in man-made climate change is a full on Commie. Some are merely useful idiots. But whatever reason people may have for supporting the scam – greed, stupidity, virtue-signalling, idiot leftist teachers – the net result is the same: bigger government, higher taxes, more regulation, lower standards of living. Exactly like you’d get under communism, in fact.
So color me completely unshocked by the Green New Deal. It looks like a revamped Communist Manifesto because that’s exactly what it is.
If implemented, the size of government would increase to levels never before seen in a Western economy. The state’s control of everything from wage levels to how businesses are run to your personal freedoms would be total. ...
As I reported before, the Green New Deal is just a warmed over version of something Sen. Bernie Sanders proposed in 2015....
Ronald Bailey at Reason has done the math and the sums involved are eyewatering:
As it happens, a team of Stanford engineers led by Mark Jacobson outlined just such a plan back in 2015. Jacobson’s repowering plan would involve installing 335,000 onshore wind turbines; 154,000 offshore wind turbines; 75 million residential photovoltaic systems; 2.75 million commercial photovoltaic systems; 46,000 utility-scale photovoltaic facilities; 3,600 concentrated solar power facilities with onsite heat storage; and an extensive array of underground thermal storage facilities.
Assuming steep declines in the costs of each form of renewable electric power generation, just running the electrical grid using only renewable power would still cost roughly $7 trillion by 2030. The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation calculated that the total cost of an earlier version of Jacobson’s scheme would amount to $13 trillion. And based on how fast it has taken to install energy generation infrastructure in the past, Jacobson’s repowering plan would require a sustained installation rate that is more than 14 times the U.S. average over the last 55 years and more than six times the peak rate.
Luckily, AOC has an easy solution to this. She’s just going to print more money.
Well it worked for Zimbabwe and Venezuela and Weimar Germany and Cuba. Didn’t it??
The Ecofascist 'Green New Deal' - Like FDR's New Deal, the plan expands government power while forcing taxpayers to foot the bill, The Patriot Post, January 11, 2019:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been called “the new face of the Democratic Party.” Propped up by the Leftmedia, the Millennial socialist celebrity is pushing forward with the Left’s “Green New Deal” in the hopes that Americans will fall for what’s nothing more than a dangerous scam to destroy the country as we know it.
But you can’t put a new face on socialism, not matter what you call it...
The Green New Deal would have serious implications for American energy production. Advocates claim that the U.S. would be required to eliminate nuclear power and natural gas. How important is that? As National Review’s Jim Geraghty notes, “Natural gas currently provides about 32 percent of America’s energy, and nuclear power produces another 10 percent.” Additionally, he says, “The ‘Green New Deal’ would also eliminate coal, which provides almost 18 percent of America’s energy, and liquid natural gas and oil, which generates another 28 percent.” Geraghty warns that all of this would require the U.S. to “replace about 88 percent of its current energy sources” in 11 years and would result in the loss of nearly six million energy jobs.
Still not convinced that the Green New Deal is bad for America?
Its proponents also want to reduce our military by half....
Notice that there’s actually very little in the way of environmental conservation in this deal. It’s really all about realizing Barack Obama’s promise of “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” But who’d want to live in an ecofascist nation where economic slavery empowers a totalitarian elite determined to enact socialism under the guise of environmental protection?...
Bernie Sanders and the Green New Deal Say Slavery Is Freedom, John Hayward, Breitbart, February 9, 2019:
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stewed for a few hours over President Donald Trump’s critique of socialism in Tuesday’s State of the Union Address, then lashed back on Twitter with this defense of his cherished ideology: “People are not truly free when they can’t afford health care, prescription drugs, or a place to live. People are not free when they cannot retire with dignity or feed their families.”
This should resolve any lingering doubts about socialism’s death grip on the Democrat Party because Bernie Sanders’ eruption is a core tenet of the party he allies with. Democrats are constantly parroting the line that people cannot be truly “free” unless their government provides the necessities of life, which they pretend will become “free” in the materialist sense because the government is giving them away.
This equation of material goods with freedom is nothing new. It is an increasingly popular element of Democrat rhetoric. For example, then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi explained in 2012 that Obamacare meant “liberation” for Americans because it would allow them to quit their jobs and become writers, musicians, or artists.
To put this in Orwellian terms, Sanders and the Democrats are saying slavery is freedom: you cannot be “free” unless other people are enslaved by the State and compelled to provide essential goods. It is a materialistic view of freedom with deep roots in Marxist ideology, which holds that people cannot be authentic and emotionally honest when they are forced to work for their sustenance and bow before the wealthy jackasses who sign their paychecks....
